Everyone who’s on your side, you can’t see them, they’re behind you. The ones you can see are the ones who are against you. If you look this way, there are people writing down everything you say to sell papers, and if you look that way, there are people writing down everything you say for history, and there are people watching you all the way up there, like you’re in this bear pit and they’ve come to see you fight, for entertainment…’

Before Ruth was a backbench MP, she was a nurse. Before Anna was Ruth’s Chief of Staff, she was very nearly shortlisted by the Party to be an MP. Before Kelly was a junior staffer, she was embroiled in student politics. At some point in all of their paths, each of them made a decision that led them to make up the Office of Ruth Mandour: marginal first-time MP, former essential worker, champion of healthcare reform, and potential loose cannon (if she doesn’t think before she speaks).

In one sitting week at Parliament House, Ruth opens her mouth and with it, a can of worms. Generation in and generation out, it is the women who are put to work when the House must be cleaned.
